A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER
With excitement and gratitude, I welcome you to The Children's Peace Initiative. It has been a dream
of mine, literally, to build a community that would contribute to creating a more peaceful world. One
mid-summer night, several years ago, I awoke from a dream. As I sat up in bed I heard myself say,
“The Children's Peace Initiative!” Grabbing my bedside notepad, I jotted down the half-asleep
proclamation. I fell back to sleep, and I thought no more about my bold idea for several weeks. My
August break ended; and I went back to work doing family therapy in my private practice, and creating
academic workshops. By the time the hardships of winter arrived, I had more cases than I could handle,
which all seemed to tie back to anxiety in young children.
And now here we are almost a decade later, and I am still in the position of having to turn away
children suffering from anxiety. So my dear reader, how can we move forward during this difficult time
as we try to raise our children? My hope is that this website for The Children's Peace Initiative that I
dreamt of so many years ago, will educate and inform you in ways that will help you navigate the
emerging needs of children in our rapidly changing world. The website is supported by a team that is
devoted to imparting information that will change lives. Stay with us, read on, and check in frequently for updates! Together, we will create a path toward a more peaceful world for all.

The Children's Peace Initiative

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The Children's Peace Initiative is to implement community programs that support the mental health of children, as well as the adults in their lives.

Through its programs, The Children's Peace Initiative seeks to shape the experience of children's significant and formative time spent in school by promoting both their academic and emotional success.

Traditional school policies have treated mental health as a separate entity from academic success. Our current understanding of how children learn and thrive forces us to reevaluate what is best for the emotional life of the learner.

These programs will prepare the global citizens of tomorrow by contributing to greater academic success, an empathic worldview, and fostering young adults capable of creating a more peaceful world.

We have the knowledge. We need a coalition to put what we know into what we do. We invite parents, family members, educators, and all caregivers to join us in our mission.
